White Pond Skating

White Pond is a 250 acre "primitive" fishing lake in upper Putnam County, NY. Bring hot chocolate in a vacuum bottle; there are no facilities nearby. Bring a snow shovel and a gallon jug of water to "touch up" the oval as necessary.

Directions: Take the Ludingtonville exit, Exit 17 off Interstate 84. (Exit 17 is about 9 miles west of Brewster or 6 miles east of the Taconic State Parkway.) If you come from Brewster, turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp and go under I-84. If you come from the west, just turn right. Go about 1/8 mile to an intersection with State Route 52. There is a Hess station at the corner. Turn right onto Route 52. Go about 1 mile. Turn left onto County Route 30, Milltown Road. Proceed 2.4 miles to the parking lot on the far end of White Pond. Look for the people out on the ice. Lace up your skates and enjoy!
